How to… avoid copyright issues October 3, 2007

Want to know more about copyright laws?

Basically, here is a short run down of the do’s and don’ts (please note that for more legal information, go to Creative Commons)

  • Copyright aims to protect the author or creator from unauthorised reproductions or adaptations of the original work, be it books, paintings, software, drawings, photographs
  • Copyright is a type of intellectual property (IP) which protects creative and inventive efforts
  • Basically, if you didn’t create it, then you probably don’t own the copyright and you need to get permission to use the work, and if you can’t get permission, then you shouldn’t use the work!
